Today was a scheduled rest day in Sarria, which is the starting point for a large number of pilgrims who only walk the last 100 km to Santiago. This is the minimum distance that you have to walk to get your Compostela (certificate acknowledging that you have walked the Camino).
To get up into the Sarria old town you have to climb a long flight of stairs – no horses allowed.
We followed our usual rest day routine. A sleep in followed by a leisurely breakfast in the hotel and then a shopping trip to replenish our provisions for the walking days ahead. The old section of Sarria is quite small compared to other towns we have visited so we just pottered around.
